Today I am joining in the Old School block of the month with Kim Lapacek of Persimon Dreams!
My block is called Christmas Blossom and I am going to share with you how easy it is to do a partial seam to complete your quilt block.
Download the pattern, grab some favorite fabrics and get cutting!
Sew up your block units of one center block and four side units.
Sew your first petal/leaf rectangle to the top of your center square, sewing from the top but stopping approximately 1 1/2" from the end. I like to finger press this section.
Now you can fully add the next petal/leaf rectangle to the left side of the center square. Press.
Add another petal/leaf rectangle to the bottom of the center square. Press.
Add the last petal/leaf rectangle to the right side of the center square. Press.
Now you can finish sewing the seam for the first rectangle you started with and press.
You are done! That is all there is to doing a partial seam quilt block.
I love how easy it is while looking more complicated!
Hope you enjoy this block and be sure to hop on over to Kim's blog and check out 11 other blocks that have been shared this year! She will have a finishing pattern posted too.
When you’re finished be sure to share your blocks to social media:
- Instagram: using hashtag #OSBOM21 and please tag Kim @PersimonDreams
- and/or the new Old School BOM Facebook Group!
P.S. You can find me on Instagram and Facebook.
I would love to have you join my Facebook group called Sweet Stitchin's too!
Sherri, that is a fun block, I can see it in spring colors also.

I didn't see a pattern for the Christmas Blossom block. Is there any way I can do a PDF or print off the pattern? I love the pattern, and would like to have the directions and the fabric requirements. Thank you so much.
