Welcome to week 4 of our sew along! We are cruising right along on this fun project and I hope it’s been easy sewing for you each week. This week we are going to be sewing up the kitty.
So get your kitty pieces and let’s begin.....
Starting with the kitties bowtie, one of my favorite tools to use is the quilters magic wand to mark on the backside of my squares the lines to sew on. I prefer this to drawing one line down the center. It gives you an actual line to stitch on instead of just using your quarter inch foot. I like to stitch just inside the line so that I have room for when I turn back the fabric and press it. It makes for a much more accurate half square triangle.
Now using your half square triangles, layer them together again, alternating the fabrics. Using your quilters magic wand again, draw your sewing lines, stitch, cut in half and press. Make two of these bowties.
Now following the pattern, make your two small flying geese units and more half square triangle units from the kitty and background fabric.
Stitch all these units together with your longer background strip and larger kitty fabric rectangles to sew up half of the kitty.
I also like to use the quilters magic wand when I have larger squares instead of just using the tape on my sewing machine for a more accurate ssdwing line.
Following the pattern, so your other units for your kitty.
And stitch these units together with your pink background pieces for the other half of the kitty body.
And that’s it! You don’t sew these together yet and they should be different heights. So just set them aside and we will use them next week when we complete the center of our table runner.
Don’t forget to pop over to Facebook and join my sweet Stitchin group where we are posting each week our progress. I will have prizes each week for a random winner who shared. The link to the group is HERE.
See ya next week!
