It's the last week for our Sugar Plums Sew Along. I have really enjoyed making this quilt with an Autumn flare. I plan on keeping this one for myself. I give most of my quilts away and I don't have one that is for fall so this will be it.
I used the Sugar Plums pattern found in the Winter Wonderland book. And here are the Sugar plum Sew Along cutting instructions for the borders. Get all your pieces cut out and we will start sewing.
Last week we put all the blocks together and this week we get to finish it all up with borders.
Let's start with sewing the 1 1/2" X 42" background strips end to end. Cut into (2) 1 1/2" X 66 1/2" for the sides of the quilt top and (2) 1 1/2" X 47 1/2" for the top and bottom of quilt top.
Sew the background border to the sides of quilt and then to the top and bottom. Be sure to press.
Now sew the 2" X 42" inner border strips together, end to end. Cut into (2) 2" X 69 1/2" for the sides and (2) 2" X 50 1/2" for top and bottom.
Sew inner border strips to sides then top and bottom.
Now for the outer border...we need to make 4 pinwheel blocks using the 2 3/8" outer border squares and the 2 3/8" inner border squares like we did HERE.
Make four of them. They should measure 3 1/2".
Stitch 1 1/2" X 3 1/2" outer border rectangle to one side of the pinwheel. Then sew 1 1/2" X 4 1/2" outer border rectangle to other side of pinwheel. Press. Make four of these.
Now let's sew up some flying geese units using the 2"X 3 1/2" inner border rectangles and 2" outer border squares.
Make 24 flying geese. Now we need to sew two flying geese together with 3" X 6 1/2" outer border rectangle. Press and make 8 of these.
Cut (2) of the outer border strips into (2) 4 1/2" X 38 1/2" for the top and bottom of the quilt.
Now stitch the remaining 4 1/2" X 42" outer border strips end to end and cut into (2) 4 1/2" X 59 1/2" strips for the sides of the quilt.
Stitch a flying geese unit to both ends of the side outer border strips and stitch to sides of quilt. Press.
Stitch a flying geese unit and pinwheel block to both ends of the top/bottom outer border strips and stitch to the top and bottom of the quilt top. Press.
And your done!!
It has been raining and windy here again so I had trouble taking pictures.
Now I just need to find time to quilt it. I would love to see how your quilt turns out. Feel free to post it to my Facebook Page, tag me on Instagram or you can send it to me in an email and I can share here on the blog.
