It's Wednesday, and I want to share my lastest W.I.P. (work in progress) with you. I LOVE the Union Jack block so I thought I should make a quilt of it, a quilt just for me, one I don't have to share, one I get to use when I want to snuggle on the couch.
I picked some bright, springy fabrics from Moda and set off chopping up the fabric. I wanted it to look just like the Union Jack Flag which has different width white strips...something I really hadn't noticed until I wanted to make this quilt.
So I chopped and sewed, chopped, sewed and chopped more. I had to trim the blocks down and they ended up alittle more square than I wanted but I love the look anyways. Now I just need to quilt it. I am thinking of using a Minky fabric for the back. Have you used Minky before?
I think I may need a pillow to go with and when I make the pillow I will take down the measurements and try to take some pictures to show you how I did it.
What are you working on this week?
LOVE IT!!!!!

Love it! Sherri, minky is super but a little tricky. As a longarmer I make sure the selvage runs along my bars. When I try it perpendicular to the bars I just get a rumpled mess.

Hi Sherri, You quilt is super cute. I spent 3 weeks in England last year, mostly in Cambridge, and it was just amazing. A fabric company had an England-inspired line out last summer (can't remember the company) and I have it to make as a chevron (for all the chevrons they have along their roads) quilt as a "memory quilt" of the time I spent there. Love the idea for the Union Jack, though, too! Thanks for sharing!

I love how your quilt turned out and the colors you used.

Hi Sherri.
I have used Minke in a quilt, a comfort quilt for a dear friend going through chemo. We put it on the back and since we were quilting it ourselves, we did the "unthinkable". We put the minke between the binding and the front which kept the minke under control. This meant, of course, that the binding had to be stitched down on the front side but it made the minke so easy to work with, I'd do it that way again in a minute.
Lovely block, your Union Jack.
