I have always loved the American Patchwork and Quilting Magazine. There is always something in it that I find inspiring and of course, a project or two that goes on to my "gotta make it" list. Yes, the list is VeRy long!
When I got my "Quilts and More" magazine from APQ this month I was very excited to see two of my projects made it on to the front cover. YAY! How exciting is that!
My projects are the tote bag on the top right and the eye glass case on the lower right.
I made the eye glass case for my sunglasses so I can toss them in my purse. But these days, I seem to always be running around with bi-focal glasses on my face all the time, so I think I need to make a case or two those glasses also. Of course, I could try to be careful with them and put them in a pocket in my tote when I head out the door but I just don't aim that well when I am throwing them in, so I think a cute case is the way to go. I will be making some of the cases when I get back from Market and I will post them for you to see.
The tote bag was designed because I needed bags to take to the grocery store when I shop. Nothing more fun than to have a cute tote to shop with and I really don't like coming home with a bunch of plastic bags....so why not have a cute tote or two to take with. It also doubles as a great beach bag. I am definitely heading to the beach when I get home from Market! I could use a day or two with sun in my face.
So...which is your favorite project? Leave me a comment and you could win a copy of the "Quilts and More" magazine along with a Moda Layer Cake. I will draw the winner on May 15th, so be sure to leave your comment today.
love both of your creations! I hear ya on the need for several glasses cases. Love those!

I really like the tote bag and the choice of fabrics you used--houndstooth is a favorite of mine.
Thanks for the chance to win a layer cake--I have the magazine.

I love them both, but think the handles in the tote are very clever! Congratulations on making the cover of the magazine!

I love the handles on your tote bag. How exciting to have not one, but two of your designs on the cover. Way to go!
Posted by: Becky in Georgia | May 10, 2012 at 06:55 PM
i love both projects, but right now i really need that glass case -- my clip-on sunglasses are taking a beating and have many scratches. it's so easy to just throw them into my purse. your glass case would be easy to find in bright, bold colors! ahhhh, too easy! thank you for this opportunity and congrats on the mag cover.

I like your totebag best since my glasses are always on my face. Nice handle treatment. Kathie L in Allentown

Well since I need to make multiples of both projects, I can't choose which one I like best. 6 pr of reading glasses lying around = 6 glass cases and I've been wanting to make totes for my groceries. I'll probably need 10. LOL. Congratualtions on being a Cover Girl this month!

That tote bag is just perfect Sherri! It would be fun to have something cute to bring home from the store!!

Sherri, that tote bag just thrilled me! Love the knotted handles, how clever. Especially that plaid fabric and those HST's. I didn't think I needed a glasses case since I almost never take them off..until I realized if I had one,I could pop them in my purse while I am waiting for my hair color to develope at the salon!! I have been carefully holding them. I have the magazine, every issue since the begining! When your stuff is on the cover, you know it is good!!!

Both are cute, but I think the tote is really cute-love the handle treatment!

I love this tote bag, it's so sad I'm French, I can't buy and read this magazine!
Posted by: Muriel | May 11, 2012 at 03:09 AM
I love the tote, I like the design of it, as for the sunglass case i could use a couple of those
Posted by: Pam Perrotta | May 11, 2012 at 05:10 AM
oooh ... too hard to choose. But I love totes so I'll pick the tote bag. Waaay cute.

I actually bought that magazine at the grocery store last week because I HAVE to make that tote bag - I don't usually buy mags off the shelf, but I just had to have this one for that pattern - LOVE IT!!

The tote bag is adorable...love the handles!
Posted by: Joyce | May 11, 2012 at 06:09 AM
Love the sunglass holder. Great way not only to keep track of them but also to keep them from getting scratched when you toss them down somewhere. Guess who tends to do that!!!

I can't have enough totes!
Posted by: Sheryl F. | May 11, 2012 at 06:25 AM
Love the tote ihave to wear my glasses at al times ,but know a few i could make the glass case for.
Posted by: Mary Chevalier | May 11, 2012 at 06:44 AM
Love the tote but the eyeglass case would truly save my glasses.
Posted by: Pat | May 11, 2012 at 06:50 AM
Sheri- I've had fabric for the tote laying on my cutting table since I get the magazine two weeks ago!! Want to get it made for my trip to DC next week...hopefully! Like the galsses case too, but love the tote more.
Posted by: Jane | May 11, 2012 at 07:02 AM
My sunglasses are also readers so I have them on most of the time. The tote caught my ere first and because of the fabric color choices and of a good useable size. Thanks for the chance and congrats on not one but two projects on the same cover!
Posted by: Mary | May 11, 2012 at 07:24 AM
Both are great, but I would likely use the glasses case for my rotary cutter instead (the glasses stay put on my nose). The "interest trim" of the bag located at the bottom rather than the usual top edge makes it "special" for me. Thanks for that.
Posted by: Kay in NJ | May 11, 2012 at 07:43 AM
Both are awesome.I go with the tote.Congratulations cover girl and thanks for the chance!!
Posted by: rosa | May 11, 2012 at 08:06 AM
I really love the bag, but right now I need a case for my sunglasses. They get banged around in the car most of the time, so out of necessity, the sunglasses case wins, for me.

Got the magazine, love the tote
Posted by: Karen Diamond | May 11, 2012 at 08:38 AM
I too love the Quilts and More magazine-always great projects and was so happy to see your projects Sherri-really great. Love them both but for sure am going to make the eye glass case if not 2 or 3. right now my eye glass case(purchased one is black and I can never find it in my purse!!)so I truly think a brightly colored one is in order!!!
Posted by: MaryLou | May 11, 2012 at 08:46 AM
I really like the eye glass case.
Posted by: Sacha | May 11, 2012 at 08:55 AM
I have lots of half square triangle blocks and this is the perfect project to use them...nice tote...
Posted by: Norma Benz | May 11, 2012 at 08:59 AM
Love them both - I'm thinking the tote would look great with the fabrics you used for the eyeglasses case! Love those bright colors...

I love the tote. Great that both projects made the front cover, must make you feel 'over the top'.
Posted by: Marie | May 11, 2012 at 10:18 AM
Cute projects, but fave the tote bag. Love the handle treatment, must try that. Congratulations on being a "cover girl".

Posted by: Manon Ehlers | May 11, 2012 at 11:09 AM
Congratulations on making the cover not once, but twice. How exciting for you. As far as which I like the best, that is hard to say. My husband's sunglasses are usually sliding every which way in the car, and your case is the perfect idea for them. Also, the bag for me is great - love the handles - and his eyeglass case would fit in nicely. Thank you so much for both ideas.

The tote bag is my favorite!! What an adorable bag to carry a project along on my next road trip! Love your fabric choices and congrats on making the front cover not once, but twice!!...way to go!
Posted by: Sue Baker | May 11, 2012 at 11:40 AM
I love the tote! I think the way the handles are threaded through the grommets makes it that much more interesting than being sewn down to the bag itself. I also liked the row of half-square triangles at the bottom for accent!
Posted by: Laurel | May 11, 2012 at 12:39 PM
I think the tote bag is so cute. It just caught my eye right away. It is definitely my favorite. It'll have to go on my to do list too.

Both patterns are adorable. Since I'm wearing my readers more and more, I think it would be fun to make the eye glass case. But..... I love the bag too.

My favorite one is the Tote Bag which I have actually made myself. I really like your red version -- very striking. AND you get to shop in STYLE with a bag no one else has. Congrats on making the front cover TWICE! How exciting!

Posted by: Judy Stokes | May 12, 2012 at 03:31 PM
Both are Very Cute projects. My
fave would be the bag. I can see
it being used for throwing fat quarters in to take to a sewing class. :)
Posted by: Terry Holland | May 12, 2012 at 09:26 PM
It is a hard decision--the eyeglass case because I have "reader's" all over the place and they should have each have a case but I have to vote for the bag because I am the "the bag lady"! I love bags--any and all kinds and this one is unique because of the way the handles are knotted! I love it--and the trim on the bottom edge is a bonus! You have such great stuff:-)

Congratulations on both your projects making the cover! Whoo Hoo! The Tote Bag really caught my eye with the plaid fabrics and cute handles. I just came across your blog this morning and I'm glad I did, I would love to win a copy of the magazine with your projects.

Fun AND useful! I need both - the bag looks easy enough to do in a weekend but roomy enough for a beach towel and sunscreen. Thanks for all your creations - and the chance to win a layer cake. Have fun at market!
