I am very excited to get starting with this quilt! This week, we are going to cut our fabrics and piece the plaid center of the blocks.
Cut your fabrics as shown on page 7 of the Holiday Wishes book, each fabric unit has a letter and I find it really helpful to label each piece so that you can keep sewing along and not have to re-measure to make sure your sewing the correct size pieces together.
I totally forgot to take a picture for you of my bright and happy fabrics all cut and ready, but here is how your fabrics should look when they are labeled. (This is from when I made the quilt in the book).
I used the Alphabitties from the Fat Quarter Shop to label my pieces and I love how easy they make it. I also like to use my clover clips to clip the Alphabitties to my pieces if I need to put them away. They make labeling very easy.
Starting with (J) and (K) squares, chain sew them together into 36 rows. Press your rows in the direction the arrows in the book show.
Then stitch (k) and (l) units together into 24 rows. Press your rows in the direction the arrows in the book show.
Here is how the two rows will look.....
Stitch the rows together to complete the center plaid square...
I am looking forward to seeing your quilts come together.
For some inspiration, this Gingham Stars quilt was made by a friend of mine. I think it looks just beautiful and so does the wonderful Alaskan snow!
Feel free to post pictures of your progress on my Facebook page or in my Sweet Stitchin Group on Facebook. Or you can tag me on Instagram. Let's use the hashtag #Ginghamstarssewalong to make it easier for us to see each others quilt.
See you next week for more sewing!
